Hip-hop with Ms. Lauryn Hill. Broadway show tunes with Billy Porter. Praise and Worship with Hillsong NYC. MTV with AJ Mitchell. It's fair to think that there would be no ties between these artists. Each artist has their own separate following and are telling different stories. And yet, they do share a common thread in choosing the genre-bending drummer Zachary Mullings to help tell their stories.
Mullings came to prominence in 2016 with Thirdstory, the powerhouse vocal trio singing backgrounds for Chance The Rapper's "Coloring Book" tour. Known as the "4th member" of the group, he travelled the world as the band's sole contracted musician for 4 years and was an integral part of the creative process in their debut album "Cold Heart". Zach performed on drums and guitar and helped arrange the band's live show.
Recently, Mullings took the musical director role with Grammy Award nominee Kevin Garrett as he released his debut album "Hoax". Their itinerary included a North American tour and a performance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" (you can find this performance in the "Music" tab). He has also started his journey in NYC's Theater District, playing select shows for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen". He is the recipient of the Harold Wheeler Scholarship from M.U.S.E.
When he's not working with any of (but not limited to) the artists above, Zach passes on the knowledge from his time at Berklee College of Music (class of 2014) by teaching private lessons on drums, piano, guitar, and production through Vital Music. Zach's passion for music is only superseded by his passion for people, and he is ecstatic about teaching and developing anyone who desires to discover the art inside of them.
Zach endorses Paiste Cymbals.
“Zach Mullings is a powerful talent. His work ethic is unparalleled. I’ve not met someone else who takes on every role asked of him as effortlessly as Zach. I’m very lucky to call him my music director, amongst many other job titles, but even luckier to call him my friend. He does need more sleep though.”

“Zach Mullings is master of rhythm and texture. I think he has an unmatched understanding of time and how to use his instrument to support the surrounding atmosphere of a song, while having a distinct voice. He is humble, hard working, a great friend, and is going to be significant force in how music is heard in our culture.”
Elliott Skinner, Artist (Thirdstory, Chance The Rapper)
"He only plays what's perfect for the music, and when it's time to go crazy, he does!"
Billy Porter, Tony Award-winning Actor and Vocalist (Kinky Boots)
